“10 Characteristics of Adults as Learners” By Dr. Gary Kuhne
Adult learners are more diverse, than child learners. They have characteristics that must be addressed when creating lesson plans. This article is a useful resource because Dr. Gary Kuhne list 10 characteristics adult learners possess, but also includes suggestions I can use to meet students diverse learning needs. Two examples I will consider for future use are:
• When an adult is lacking in confidence, use collaborative learning approaches to change a classroom from competitive to a collaborative one.
• The learner role is secondary for adults, try giving assignments far in advance since life demands can conflict with their learning time.
